Craig Ley, for whom I oversaw the creative direction and identity development for Rock & Reilly’s, approached me about overseeing the same for his next restaurant endeavour on the famous Sunset Strip … Tex Mex. With a lack of really good Tex Mex fare in Southern California, he wanted to establish a place that true lovers would converge on and appreciate. He already had the name “Justin Queso’s” and asked me what I thought of it. I thought it brilliant as it would not get lost in a sea of typical names. A really cool “punny” play on words, and everyone I repeated it to got a twinkle in their eye. It also really helped to conjure up many more avenues of brand storytelling than a bland name would. I ran with it and landed in a design space that worked on many levels. They were able to open up coming out of Covid, and have since been a hit on the famous boulevard.
